There are at least four gardens mentioned in the Bible and over one hundred flowers, plants, herbs, spices, and trees. In the Garden of Eden God walked in the cool of the day with man. (Gen 3:8) Song of Songs pictures the Lover and his beloved walking together in a garden of intimacy (a picture of Christ and his church Sg 5:1; 6:2-3a; 4:16). The prophets portrayed the Lord's blessing on his people as a well watered garden. (Is 51:3; 58:11; Jer 31:12) The passion of our Savior took place in the Garden of Gethsemane. (Mat 26:36) There was a garden where he was crucified and where he was buried. (Jn 19:41) Mary mistook him for the gardener when he had risen. (Jn 20:15) St. Paul calls the church God's garden. (1Cor 3:9) Finally, we see the Garden of Eden again in Paradise: "To him who overcomes I will give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the *Paradise of God." (Rev 2:7) ASV reads'or, garden.' The flags on this page are hand dyed silk and are made to represent aspects of our Lord in flowers, herbs, spices, trees, and gardens of the Bible.
